Candidate is responsible for the safe confinement of prisoners and the smooth operation of the detention center. Candidate must exercise independent judgment in dealing with dangerous or unusual situations, exercising safety practices and procedures, and works under stressful, high-risk conditions.

In addition, the candidate must:

be employed with a law enforcement agency/detention facility
complete a satisfactory background check
submit a birth certificate
must be at least 18 years of age
must have a high school diploma or GED
must have a valid South Carolina diriver's license (NC DL is acceptable for class 2 officers)
must be a US citizen

Candidate must hold or be able to obtain a Class 2 Detention Officer Certification from the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy within one (1) year of employment. Candidate must agree to undergo a medical test (which includes a TB test performed with a needle) and will be sprayed with OC and undergo a 5 second live exposure with a Taser.

$41,574.80 starting salary for uncertified candidates
$42,374.80 starting salary for certified candidates
