Plans, coordinates, and supervises the Chesterfield County Library System in the rural

county of Chesterfield, SC. Duties include the administration and financial responsibility

and is responsible to the Board of Trustees for implementing policies and services.

Coordinates the activities of libraries, trustees, and other interested groups toward the

establishment, organization, and administration of the Chesterfield County Library

program. Responsible for the daily management of the Chesterfield County Library

System, which include planning improved services; discussing needs, problems, and

concerns with staff members; authorizing payment of bills, signing vouchers; and

performing other routine administrative duties. Plans, develops, and implements

programs for countywide library service. Prepares and submits reports requested by the

Library Board or other agencies. Maintains close liaison with county and local officials,

community leaders and civic groups. Prepares the annual budget for submission to the

Library Board and the County Council. Formulates programs and draft proposals for

federal grants, maintains responsibility for the expenditure of grant funding as well as the

evaluation of results.

Attends all Library Board meetings ex-officio and submits recommendations on library

policies and services. Is directly responsible for the implementation of the Board’s

policies. Acts as liaison between the County Library System and the SC State Library.

Minimum Education & Requirements: Master’s degree in library science (MLS) from a

graduate library program accredited by the American Library Association and at least

three years of professional public library experience, preferably in an administrative

and/or managerial/supervisory capacity. Must be eligible for or possess a professional

certificate from the SC State Library and must have a valid South Carolina driver’s
