Job Opportunity Notice

Under occasional supervision, supervises and participates in daily jail operations. Ensures the safety and security of inmates, staff, and the citizens of Chesterfield County through the efficient and effective enforcement of proper jail policies and procedures. Works under stressful, high-risk conditions and performs related work as required. Reports to the Sheriff

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supervises subordinate Detention Supervisors, including instructing, planning, assigning, and reviewing work.

• Maintains organizational standards, coordinates activities, and addresses employee problems.

• Participates in personnel decisions, including selecting new employees and recommending transfers, promotions, discipline, and discharge.

• Evaluates the work of subordinates and offers advice and assistance as required.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Minimum of two years of experience as a Correctional Officer, with a minimum requirement of experience as a Detention Center supervisor (or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities).

• Successful completion of required law enforcement coursework and possession of valid law enforcement certifications, including Detention Officer and Jail Management Certifications.

• Possession of a valid South Carolina driver’s license.
